The addition of the Newsfeed in SharePoint 2010 was a significant push forward for Microsoft and the SharePoint platform. If you're not familiar with the SharePoint Newsfeed, it is similar in concept to the Activity Feeds found on popular social networking sites like Facebook and LinkedIn. The SharePoint 2010 Newsfeed aggregates the activity on your SharePoint site. After utilizing the SharePoint 2010 Newsfeeds for awhile in our own environment and working with numerous clients on their SharePoint 2010 roll-outs, we realized that all the 'out of the box' activities in the SharePoint 2010 Newsfeeds were profile centric with no visibility to the real discussions and collaboration happening throughout the SharePoint site.  Simply put,  SharePoint was lacking a few key activities that would really help drive user engagement and adoption.

SP Activities allows you to get more from the out of the box Newsfeed and Activity feed capabilities of SharePoint 2010 in a way that will get users more involved, interacting and collaborating with each other all within the SharePoint site they are already using.

With SP Activities from SusQtech, we've expanded the out of the box activities of SharePoint 2010 to include Discussion Lists, Document Libraries, Photo Libraries and Announcements Lists and give users the opportunity to comment on any of the activities that appear in the newsfeed getting them to interact more with their colleagues.

What's Included

The SP Activities product comes bundled with two site collection that are deployed to the site collection you choose during installation.

SP Activities Extended Activity Events Feature


With this site collection feature enabled additional Activities for Document Libraries, Photo Libraries, Discussion Lists and Announcement Lists will be recorded as Activities and appear in the SharePoint 2010 Newsfeed on a users 'My Newsfeed' page and on their My Site Overview Tab. In addition, these activities can will also be displayed in the SP Activities Community Activity and Recent Activity Web Parts.

 

SP Activities Web Parts

SP Activities includes 3 web parts for you to use to enhance the Social Experience of SharePoint 2010. Each Web Part was designed to be flexible for SharePoint Administrators to use and configure anywhere within the SharePoint Environment. Here's a quick look at each.

  • Community Activity Web Part - The Community Activity Web Part can be used as a replacement for the 'out-of-the-box' SharePoint Activity Web Part. This Web Part includes an advanced user interface that can be easily configured to show as many activities as you need and allows users to comment on colleagues Activities (a feature not available in SharePoint 2010). This Web Part can be configured to work in one of four modes: Mini, Profile, Community or Single.
  • Status Notes Web Part - The SharePoint Status Web Part allows for a more flexible and portable way for users to update their 'status'. The web part can be placed on any Web Part page or Page Layout and allows the currently logged user to update their status as it appears in the Activity Newsfeeds.
  • Recent Activities Web Part - The Recent Activities Web Part is similar to the Community Activity Web Part in that it provides an advanced User Experience, allows for comments on Activities but is designed to filter activities for single user. This Web Part was designed for use on Profile Pages and My Sites where Activities for a specific user need to be displayed.

  

SP Activities Product Licensing

A valid SP Activities license is required for each Web Front End (WFE) in the farm where both where the activities are tracked and where the Web Parts will be used.  The cost for each license is $1,495 (US). If you have any questions on licensing SP Activities please contact a product specialist at 1.888.603.0304.
 
 

Software Assurance

We are constantly enhancing and improving the SP Activities product and release updates on a regular basis. In order to receive these updates and to submit product support and enhancement requests you should purchase Software Assurance for your SP Activities licenses. The price of Software Assurance for SP Activities is $299.00 per year
